Manetti Shrem Museum of Art

In November 2019, the chapter organized a visit to UC Davis' Manetti Shrem Museum of Art. The museum, which opened in 2016, “cultivates transformational art experiences to inspire new thinking and the open exchange of ideas.” Participants viewed three exhibitions, Kathy Butterly | ColorForm, Landscape Without Boundaries, and NEW ERA, an installation by Doug Aitken. They also participated in a workshop led by Sacramento artist Steph Rue (Fulbright South Korea, 2015-2016), "Joomchi: Playing with Paper." The workshop invited participants to "create a unique landscape using a traditional paper-felting technique called joomchi.” They used hanji, Korean paper, to explore a variety of ways to collage, felt and fuse paper into interesting textures.
