Tango Workshop
Northern California Fulbright was honored to host a special introductory tango dancing workshop. This was a rare opportunity to learn from Nicolas and Hermán Filipeli— twin brothers, tango dancing champions from Buenos Aires.
Nicolas and Hermán Filipeli, known as the Tango Twins, have danced since they were teenagers, toured extensively around the world, and won many awards including third place in the Tango Mundial (World Cup of Tango) held annually in Buenos Aires. As a duo, they break out of the rigidity and heteronormativity of traditional tango dancing with their innovative partnering style and fresh ideas for the dance. In addition, they are versatile and also teach and perform more traditional style tango with women partners.
We offered a very special opportunity to take an introductory tango dancing workshop with the Tango Twins, accompanied by a brief presentation about the history and cultural significance of tango in Argentina, a demonstration of their performance, and light refreshments.
